Nothing is switched off the moment an invoice is late.
First, a reminder. An invoice that is overdue but still inside the grace window gets an email; the service keeps running normally.
Then, suspension. A service still overdue after the grace window is suspended. The site stops serving and mail stops flowing, but nothing is deleted. Paying the invoice restores it.
Finally, cancellation. A service that stays suspended well past that point is cancelled, and cancellation deletes the data. The window before this happens is long — measured in weeks, not days — but once it passes, the data is gone.
Domains are on a separate track set by the registry, not by us. A domain that expires enters the registry's own renewal grace period and then a redemption period, which costs considerably more to recover from. Renew a domain before it expires, not after.
If money is the problem, open a ticket before the suspension rather than after. Something can usually be arranged; nothing can be arranged after the data is deleted.
