You do not have to move a domain to us to host the site here. Pointing it is enough, and it takes one change at your current registrar.
THE ONE CHANGE
Log in wherever you bought the domain and replace its nameservers with the ones shown on your hosting service in your account area. That is the whole operation. Registrars label it Nameservers, DNS, or sometimes Custom DNS.
Do not use the registrar's own DNS records to point an A record at us unless you specifically know why you are doing that. Handing over the nameservers means your hosting account manages every record, which is what makes email, subdomains and SSL work without further intervention.
HOW LONG IT TAKES
Up to 24 hours to be visible everywhere, usually far less. During that window some visitors see the new site and some see the old one, which is normal and not a fault.
The reason it is not instant is that the answer is cached at every step between a visitor and your domain, and each cache expires on its own schedule.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU SWITCH
If the domain currently has email somewhere else, moving nameservers moves the email too, and it will stop arriving unless the mailboxes exist here first. Set them up before you make the change, not after.
If there is a live site on the old host, upload the new one here and check it before switching, so the change is the last step rather than the first.
POINTING VERSUS TRANSFERRING
Pointing leaves the domain registered where it is; you keep paying that registrar and keep managing it there. Transferring moves the registration to us, adds a year to it, and puts everything in one place. Neither is wrong. See our transfer guide if you would rather consolidate.
