Which Certificate Do You Need?

An SSL certificate is what turns the padlock on and stops browsers marking your site as insecure. Every certificate here is issued by a publicly trusted authority, so it is recognised by every mainstream browser without your visitors having to do anything.

The range covers three levels of validation. Domain validation proves you control the domain and issues quickly, which is what most sites need. Organisation and extended validation involve real checks on the company behind the site, take longer, and show more about who you are — worth it where visitors are handing over money or personal data. Wildcards cover every subdomain at once.

Certificates are sold annually. The validation step is run by the issuing authority rather than by us, so how quickly one is ready depends on the level you choose — domain validation is usually fast, and the higher levels take as long as the checks take.

Which certificate do I need?

Domain Validated covers most sites and proves you control the domain. Organisation and Extended Validation additionally verify the business behind it, which matters more if you take payments or handle sensitive data.

Do I have to install it myself?

No. Issuance and installation are handled for you once the domain details are provided, so there is no key handling or server configuration on your side.

What is a CSR and do I need one?

A Certificate Signing Request is generated on your own server and keeps your private key there rather than sending it to anyone. Where one is needed, the order form asks for it and explains where to generate it.
